Our values

At Ballina Coast High School we empower our learners and develop the growth of excellent humans ready to contribute meaningfully to society. We have a strong school culture committed to our five core values because they are embedded in our daily teaching and practices.

Kindness

Kindness means treating ourselves and others with care and respect. We value effort, understand mistakes are part of learning, remain curious about other people and perspectives, and help to make our school a place where everyone feels safe, welcome and valued.

Communication

Communication is how we speak, listen and express ideas clearly, respectfully and confidently. We ask questions, think about 'why' and 'how', seek help when needed and use feedback to improve our learning. Positive communication helps us build relationships and connections with others.

Collaboration

Collaboration is when we work positively with others because we can learn and achieve more together. When we collaborate we can develop ideas and solutions, listen to and build on other people's thinking, respect different points of view, include others, and contribute positively to our school community.

Self-regulation

Self-regulation means taking responsibility for our choices, actions and learning. We show initiative, manage our emotions and behaviour, stay focused, make positive choices and use determination and resilience when learning is challenging. These habits build the confidence and independence needed to keep growing and learning.

Empathy

Empathy is seeking to understand how other people think and feel. It is about showing care and compassion, acting for others, respecting differences and considering how our words and actions affect those around us. Having empathy helps to create a school where everyone feels understood, included and valued.
