DESCRIPTION:Each year RRISK aims to provide all Year 11 students with the attitudes, knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about driving, alcohol and drug use, risk taking behaviours and safe partying. Webinar Dates and Times: Monday, November 16th 2020 (9am-11am) Keynote Presentation: Paul Dillon - Young People and Risk Taking Paul Dillon, from Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA), will be the keynote speaker, providing information on how to look after friends when celebrating/partying and dispelling myths regarding alcohol and drug use. In a new addition this year, Paul will allocate time to respond to student questions. The session will be broken into a 50 minutes presentation, followed by a 20 minutes break and a 40 minutes Q&A session. Tuesday, November 17th 2020 (9am-11am) Distracted Driving (esp. mobile phone using), Personal Safety, My Story (TBA) Northern NSW Health Promotion Staff will present regarding safe driver and passenger behaviour. Students will also be invited to take part in an online cognitive functioning test that will demonstrate the impact of multi-tasking and the real world implications of being distracted while driving. This personal experience will be linked to the implications of latest neuroscience findings on road safety. Thursday, November 19th 2020 (9am-11am) Justin Monk: Safe Vehicles and Paul Dillon: Mobile Drug Testing Justin Monk (Heavy Vehicles and Compliance Officer) from NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will present a session exploring vehicle safety information, considerations for young drivers when purchasing a car and the dangers associated with heavy vehicles. Paul Dillon will also present a session on mobile drug testing and what it means for young people on our roads.
