Semester One Sports Report
We congratulate all students who have represented the school so well this term in a variety of sports.
We have had a very busy time at Ballina Coast High School and a huge amount of success. We are very proud of all our students.
SWIMMING:
BCHS started off the year with a Swimming Carnival, which is the first of the three major sporting carnivals to be held in 2018. This carnival was run at Byron Bay due to the upgrade work at Ballina Memorial Pool. The following students competed and were crowned aged champions:

Congratulations to Penny Trease, Kirsty Graham-Jones, Sally Crethar and George Bettison who went on to represent BCHS and Far North Coast at the North Coast Championships and a special congratulations to Sally Crethar who then made it onto the North Coast Team to represent BCHS and North Coast at the NSW CHS State Championships for 100m Butterfly.
CROSS COUNTRY:
The BCHS Cross Country, second of the three major carnivals, was run on the 18th of May this semester. The course took a new route this year to include Lighthouse Beach, North Wall and Shelly Beach. Students represented themselves and their houses, Julum, Boorabi, Gargoon and Gwardi with much effort and great fun was had.
The following students represented their houses well and came through as age champions:

17+ Girls - Sydney Baumgarten 17+ Boys - Johnny Gibson
Ballina Coast High School was well represented at the Far North Coast Cross Country Championships with BCHS team running exceptionally well, finishing in overall second place. Well done to the following students were selected into the FNC team to compete at the North Coast Cross Country Championships at Nana Glen:
12yr Girls: Sally Creathar 1st (FNC Age Champion), Molly Walsh 2nd, Zoe Nesbit 3rd 13yr Girls: Paige Reeves 6th,
13yr Boys: Monty Moore 2nd, Brendan McKeena 5th
14yr Boys: Thomaz Westaway 3rd
14yr Girls: Zoe Aboitiz 3rd, Airlie Hunter 8th
15yr Boys: Matthew Tapping 1st (FNC Age Champion), Campbell Booth 8th
15yr Girls: Hannah Crowe 6th
17yr Girls: Sharni Stone 1st(FNC Age Champion), Sydney Baumgarten 4th
17yr Boys: Bailey Troughton 4th.
Of this fantastic group Molly Walsh, Zoe Nesbitt, Sydney Baumgarten and Matthew Tapping all placed in the top ten runners at the North Coast Championships in their respective age groups and will now represent BCHS and the North Coast at the NSWCHS Cross Country Championships to be held next term.
ATHLETICS:
The final major carnival for BCHS was Athletics which was held on a fantastic sunny day. The whole school community pitched in with positive feedback from all involved. All students participated to the best of their abilities and supported one another in all events. The following students performed exceptionally well and achieved the result as age champions:

BASKETBALL:
BCHS Open Boys Far North Coast Runners up. Karl Kreiskott and Gene Grant gained selection into the Far North Coast Team.
BCHS Open Girls Far North Coast Champions, North Coast Champions, Final 16 in NSWCHS Knockout Championships. Amba Gardnir, Erin Cattle, Sydney Baumgarten and Sarah Rishworth Gained selection into the Far North Coast Team with Amba, Erin and Sydney gaining further selection into the North Coast team to play at the NSWCHS State Championships. This was Amba's and Erins fourth straight year to represent the North Coast at these Championships. Congratulations girls, this ends an era for you.
BCHS Junior Boys were unfortunately knockout of the competition early against a very talented Mullumbimby High School team.
BCHS Junior Girls gained Far North Coast Champion Status and will be playing for the North Coast Championship title early in term 3.
FOOTBALL:
BCHS Open Boys Far North Coast runners up. Bailey Troughton, Bayley Topper, Aleki Ingham and Matteo Ribechini gained selection into the Far North Coast Football team with Matteo and Bayley Topper gaining further selection into the North Coast Team to play at the NSWCHS Football Championships.
BCHS Open Girls Football team played very well, unfortunately were knocked out of the competition after a defeat in their 3rd game. Sarah Rishworth, Taylor Watson, Hannah Graham and Karina Perris were selected into the Far North Coast Team with Sarah Rishworth being selected to represent the North Coast at the NSWCHS Football State Championships. This was Sarah's fourth straight year in a row to being selected to represent North Coast at this level, what a fantastic achievement for Sarah.
HOCKEY:
BCHS Open Boys Hockey team unfortunately were knocked out early in their competition.
BCHS Open Girls Hockey Far North Coast Champions and North Coast Runners up. Karina Perris, Billie King-Venn and Ellie Venn all made it through to represent the Far North Coast with Karina and Billie being selected into the North Coast Team to play at the NSWCHS Hockey Championships. This was the fourth straight year that both Karina and Billie represented the North Coast at the NSWCHS Championships.
NETBALL:
Open Girls Netball: Mia Munro and Jasmine Crethar were selected as Far North Coast Representatives.
RUGBY LEAGUE:
BCHS under 14's Buckley Shield team were Far North Coast championships and were beaten after the final siren in the North Coast final to Wauchope. The Opens University Shield team was beaten in the final in the round robin rounds.
Congratulations to Rowan Mansfield for being selected in the NSWCHS under 15's team.
RUGBY UNION:
Congratulations to Marcus Lees and Tim Chapman for their selection in the North Coast Rugby Union side. Tim Chapman was also selected in the under 16's NSWCHS team, outstanding effort Tim.
Under 16's Girls Rugby 7's will be competing in the state finals in Sydney on the 1st of August. Good luck girls.
SOFTBALL:
A massive congratulations to Hannah Graham for her selection into the North Coast team and her further selection into the NSWCHS State Team for Softball.

U/15 Girls Far North Coast Representatives: Brianna Watkins, North Coast Representative and a massive congratulations to Brianna Watkins for her selection in the 14 Girls NSW Touch Football Merit Team.
VOLLEYBALL:
BCHS Open Boys Volleyball were unfortunately knocked out early in their competition.
BCHS Open Girls Volleyball convincingly won through their rounds winning the title of Far North Coast Champions going onto to win against Alstonville High School claiming the title of North Coast Champions. With this win the Open Girls earnt a spot in the NSWCHS Final 16 State Championships to be held during week 1 Term 3 at Olympic Park, Sydney.
Amba Gardnir, Sydney Baumgarten, Karina Perris, Illarrah Roberts, Mariah Cavanagh, Hannah Graham were all selected into the Far North Coast Team which eventually went through undefeated at the North Coast Trials. Amba Gardnir and Sydney Baumgarten being selected into the North Coast Team went onto the NSWCHS Volleyball Championships. At this event Sydney Baumgarten played extremely well to be selected for the NSWCHS Country Team.
