U14's Buckley Shield

U14's Buckley Shield

On Monday 3 May the under 14's rugby league team ventured to Tweed Heads to contest the Buckley Shield. It was a rocky start with a number of players not arriving at school at the required time. Eventually we left with 15 of the finest rugby league players that Ballina Coasts High School's has produced.

Our first game was against Kingscliff High School. We won the toss and elected to receive the kick off. With a great first set the boys were attacking Kingscliff's line. Eventually Kingscliff succumb to the pressure. The game continued in that vain with the mighty prawns accounting for Kingscliff 48 - 0. Outstanding efforts from the three enforces Tully, Ryan and Cooper constantly bending the defensive line.

Our second game was against Tweed Heads who were favourites to the carnival. Thanks to Uncle Steve, our team was bolstered by the magnificent Marcus, who was so well rested that he missed the bus. The boys started off with numerous infringements, mainly for high tackles and attempted strips. After the initial onslaught from Tweed the boys ran away with it. Baxter, I think I'm a kicker, Turner had an outstanding game along with the halves, Dylan and Zac. The speed shown out wide by Kai and big bad bustling Brett ultimately led to a 36-6 demolition of Tweed.

Our final on the day was against Tweed again. The wise words of Steve Scott inspired the motley crew to take no prisons on their quest to take out first place. Will-Da-Beast and Mason the machine with their outstanding defence ensured that Tweed were kept scoreless in the final. Harrison and T-Rex were formidable on the wings and huge impact off the bench by Coxy and Ethan ensured that there was no backward step.

The Mighty Prawns annihilated  Tweed in the final 46-0. The players of the day were the halves; Angus (gussie), Dylan and Zac led from the front and were outstanding.

In a fortnights time the mighty prawns will do battle at another gala day in Coffs Harbour. Were they compete for North Coast Champions.
