Welcome to 2022

Welcome to 2022

Welcome back to all our students, staff, and parents/carers to Ballina Coast High School for 2022. I hope everyone had a lovely summer holiday despite the rain and restrictions. We have started the year by handing out RAT kits and masks, encouraging students to bring their own water bottles, and reminding them of socially distancing and personal hygiene. It is a changing world we live in. Our Year 7, 11, and 12 started first. Year 11 and 12 settled in well although I think Year 11 were surprised at the speedy introduction to senior years and the workload. We saw our Year 12 just roll back into routine and did so enthusiastically. I have heard staff already say they are the most delightful and high-achieving group they have had! Our Year 7 have found their feet quickly and are enjoying the new environment. Despite the heat, humidity, and rain, our young people are happy. Our extension to the cafe, our new fences, and some incoming work to build a cola over the outdoor basketball court will certainly make them happier. The staff as well!

While we have restrictions on activities, visitors, and events we are endeavouring to try to support our students and their interests in a Covid-safe environment. We are having a BCHS Swimming Carnival but students will be seated in their year cohorts not house groups. We will have no parents/visitors to minimise the risk. We are working towards a MADD production and have started TSP etc in a safe manner. We still access medical support for students but have no other external persons on site. This is a little sad because we have so many wonderful and supportive partnerships for our students from the community. We hope these will be available as soon as possible.

We look forward to 2022 with optimism and value the strong relationships we have with our parents, carers, and community. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

Janeen Silcock
