2022 SKI EXCURSION INFORMATION 

 

Following are some details regarding the two ski excursions this year.

Week 3 Year 10 ski trip for July 30th – August 6th 2022.

TRAVEL TIMES

We will depart on Saturday afternoon for both trips at 5.00 pm from Ballina Coast High School, and return at approximately 8.30am on the following Saturday.

WHAT TO BRING

Money

● 11 meals (2 X Breakfast, 7 x Lunch, 2 x Dinner) are to be purchased at students' own cost whilst travelling to and from Smiggin Holes. All other meals are included in accommodation.

Equipment and clothing that each student is required to bring includes the following:

● Warm, long socks (preferably woollen)

● Goggles and Ski Gloves

● Sunscreen and lip protection

● Personal medical kit to be carried on the mountain, e.g. asthma puffer, Band-Aids, etc.

● Neck warmer

● Thermal underwear – top & bottom (to wear under ski pants and jacket which are supplied)

● Warm long pants and jumper or polar fleece (to wear over thermals and under ski pants and jacket). Jeans are unsuitable

● Sneakers (1 pair that are suitable for walking outside at the snow) and comfortable, casual clothing for wear in the evenings within the chalet

● Pyjamas, toiletries and personal effects

● swimmers

● Mobile phone to call home

Note: Students will have a number of opportunities to discuss with staff requirements of the excursion.

Please remember the importance of layering for warmth; it is better to be overdressed than under-dressed in order to combat the extreme conditions that prevail in alpine environments.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

A group travel insurance policy for schools through Go Safe will cover all students for the duration of the ski excursion.

SKI LESSONS

We will be skiing at Perisher Blue, which includes Smiggins, Blue Cow, Perisher and Guthega ski areas. Six lessons (3 hours each) will be conducted at Smiggin Holes ski area on Sunday afternoon and each of the following mornings. Lessons are compulsory and will be organised according to student ability level.

NIGHT SKIING

Students will have the opportunity to elect to go night skiing at Perisher Front Valley on the Tuesday night at no extra expense. This session is weather dependant and optional.

MEALS AND ACCOMMODATION

We will be staying at Snowy Gums Chalet ‘on snow’ at Smiggin Holes in dorm type rooms with private facilities. All meals are included whilst staying at the Chalet, from dinner on Sunday evening through until breakfast on Friday morning. All lunches are at the student’s expense. Lunch daily will be varied on the mountain between restaurants allowing for special food requirements.

PAYMENT

The final price for the ski trip is $1,810.00 if your child selects Snowboarding it will incur an extra $20 charge. Online payments are convenient and can be done via www.ballina-h.schools.nsw.edu.au. Select the Make a Payment tab and follow the prompts. Alternatively our office accepts cash, cheques, visa and mastercard.

Payment must be finalised by Friday 1st July 2022 Week 10 Term 2
