Students will be attending an excursion with Evans Head Fishing Charters to experience Offshore fishing. This excursion achieves outcomes identified in the Stage 6 Marine Studies syllabus.
For inexperienced boat users, it is highly recommended that students consider taking sea sickness tablets/medication prior to boarding the charter boat. Students will also need to consider the weather conditions and prepare by bringing appropriate clothing. A long sleeve, collared shirt and broad brimmed hat along with sunscreen for hot, sunny and even overcast conditions will mitigate the risk of sunburn, and a water/wind proof jacket can reduce the risk of hypothermia and being cold and uncomfortable while fishing and in transit.
Any seafood caught by the students can be taken home, so students are encouraged to bring a small esky to take home their catch. Alternatively the catch can be taken back to school and stored in the freezers here for later use in seafood preparation in class.
All fishing equipment and bait is supplied. Students can bring their own equipment at their own risk. This excursion will leave from BCHS school at 4.30am as the charter will be leaving Evans Head at 5.30am and time is required prior to departure for safety briefings etc. Please consider your own transport to the school at this early hour.
