The time is fast approaching whereby Ballina High School students and staff and Southern Cross School K-12 students and staff will combine to become one school, Ballina Coast High School.  Across the two schools, staff have been working tirelessly over the last three terms to ensure that the transition process is as smooth as possible.

You may have noticed that all the demountables have arrived.  They are being fitted out to accommodate all students next year.  These buildings are air conditioned and will have up to date technology and appropriate furniture to allow optimum learning experiences for all students.

The new uniforms have been finalised and will be available for purchase from the end of the school year from Lowes.  A price list (pdf 99 KB) is attached.  Students in the class of 2022 (Year 7 2017) will be expected to be in the new uniforms. As a special offer Year 7 students will be able to receive 15% off the purchase of the uniform.

Students in Years 8–12 may wear the new uniform or they may wear either the Southern Cross School K-12 or Ballina High School uniforms. To assist with the purchasing of the new uniform one polo shirt per student in Years 8–10 will be subsidised by the schools.  A voucher will be distributed to each student by the end of this year.

All students will benefit next year from a future focussed, student centred approach to learning.  The class of 2022 will have the added benefit of integrated learning supported by a learning coach.  Students in Years 8–12 will have the benefit of a growth mind set approach to learning.  In addition, students in Years 8–10 will participate in a number of inquiry based learning days across the school year.

We have also included our BYOD policy (pdf 847 KB) for your interest. It is hoped that all students will have their own device that they can bring to school to assist with their learning. Please make sure that the device you choose for your child matches the Department of Education specifications. If any parents are experiencing difficulty purchasing a device please contact the school.

Yours sincerely
