Community consultation is soon to commence as the Department plans for the new high school in Ballina. 
 
The consultation, to commence on 12 October 2015, will ask the community to share their ideas, issues and concerns on a range of topics that will be important to consider in planning for the new school, including:
  • Topic 1: Teaching and learning methods to be used at the new school.
  • Topic 2: Features and facilities at the new school.
  • Topic 3: Transitioning our students and staff to the new school.
  • Topic 4: Developing our new school's identity and culture.
  • Topic 5: Opportunities for community partnerships and shared use of our school facilities.
  • Topic 6: The future of Southern Cross School K-6 and Distance Education Centre.
 
Workshops will be held for various groups in the community.  Select the most appropriate workship for you to attend form the list below:
  • Ballina High School and Southern Cross School staff(combined) – Tuesday 13th October, 3.45pm – 5.30pm at Southern Cross High School, Chickiba Drive.
  • Ballina High School and Southern Cross School P&C groups(combined) – Tuesday 13th October, 6pm-8.30pm at Southern Cross School, Chickiba Drive.
  • Southern Cross School parents/carers– Wednesday 14th October, 6pm - 8.30pm at Southern Cross School, Chickiba Drive.
  • Ballina High School parents/carers– Thursday 15th October, 6pm - 8.30pm at Ballina High School, Burnett Street.
  • Community workshop– Monday 19th October, 6pm - 8.30pm at Southern Cross School, Chickiba Drive.
  • Future parents/carers(parents with children in pre-school and primary school across Ballina and surrounds)- Tuesday 20th October, 6pm-8.30pm at Ballina High School, Burnett Street. 

Who should attend the community workshop on Monday 19th October, 6pm - 8.30pm at Southern Cross School, Chickiba Drive:

  • Pre-school, primary and tertiary educational organisations – staff and parents/carers.
  • Local businesses
  • Residents
  • Disability or special educational needs advocacy organisations

Yarn Ups

  • Ballina Yarn Up – Monday 26th October, 5pm – 6.30pm at Ballina Aboriginal Child and Family Centre, 10 Hayman Street.  There will be a free BBQ at 6.30pm for people that attend the Yarn Up.
  • Cabbage Tree Yarn Up – Tuesday 27th October, 5pm – 6.30pm at Cabbage Tree Island Primary School, Cabbage Tree Island Road.  There will be a free BBQ at 6.30pm for people that attend the Yarn Up.
